Full Cartier Watch Service

Here at Prime Time, we specialise in the repair and servicing of all Cartier models, from quartz Must de Cartiers to complex automatic Pashas. All work is carried out on-site in our state-of-the-art workshop. We offer a comprehensive 2-year warranty on all our Cartier servicing.

A full service includes:

  • Complete Disassembly: Stripping down of the watch movement to the individual bridge and wheel.
  • Ultrasonic Cleaning: Gentle but effective chemical cleaning to remove old oils and dust.
  • Part Replacement: Replacement of minor wear parts (if needed) using genuine Cartier components.
  • New Mainspring: Installation of a fresh mainspring for consistent power delivery (vital for ultra-thin movements).
  • Movement Re-assembly: Precise rebuilding using specific low-viscosity oils for quartz trains or synthetic lubricants for automatics.
  • Regulation: Electronic testing and regulation to ensure timekeeping meets manufacture standards.
  • Refinishing: The case and bracelet are stripped for expert polishing (Note: We use specific techniques to preserve the screw heads on Santos and Love bracelets).
  • Resealing: The watch is re-cased with new seals and pressure tested (crucial for the square Tank cases which are prone to leaks).
  • Blue Cabochon Check: Inspection of the signature sapphire crown for chips or looseness.
  • Quality Control: A 7-day cyclical test before return, complete with a 2-year warranty and complimentary watch pouch.

Specialist Cartier Services

Cabochon Crown Repair

The signature blue sapphire (spinel) set into the winding crown is the hallmark of a Cartier. If this stone chips, cracks, or falls out due to impact, we can source and set a genuine replacement stone, restoring the watch’s iconic profile. Get a free estimate

Micro-Screw Replacement

The Santos de Cartier bezel and bracelet feature tiny, functional screws. These often loosen or are lost over years of wear. We stock these specific micro-screws and use the correct Loctite formulation to secure them without damaging the bezel finish. Get a free estimate

Quartz Circuit Replacement

Many “Must de Cartier” and Tank models use high-grade quartz movements (like the Calibre 057). If a battery leaks and corrodes the circuit board (PCB), we can replace the entire electronic module with a genuine new unit to revive the watch. Get a free estimate

Vermeil Case Restoration

Vintage Must de Cartier Tanks often feature “Vermeil” cases (gold plating over sterling silver). If the plating has worn through or the silver has tarnished black, we offer specialist re-plating services to restore the rich gold lustre. Get a free estimate

Specialist Care for your Cartier

Cartier watches blend jewellery with mechanics, presenting unique challenges that we are equipped to handle.

We are particularly experienced with the Calibre 057 and 157 quartz movements found in the Tank Solo and Tank Française. A common issue is coil failure due to battery leakage. Unlike standard jewellers who might write the watch off, we can replace the coil block individually or the entire circuit, saving the watch.

Furthermore, on the Cartier Santos 100, we frequently address issues with the automatic winding reversers. If your Santos isn’t holding power, it’s often because these wheels are worn. We replace them as standard during a service. We also specialise in the correct waterproofing of square cases—a notoriously difficult shape to seal against water. We use custom-shaped dies to ensure the pressure is applied evenly when sealing the crystal.

Genuine Cartier Parts & Swiss-Grade Alternatives

Genuine Cartier Parts & Swiss-Grade Alternatives

To maintain the prestige of your Cartier, we aim to use genuine parts for internal repairs. This ensures the finishing on the movement bridges remains consistent. However, for vintage pieces where parts are scarce, or to provide a cost-effective solution for older quartz models, we can utilise high-grade Swiss alternatives. We will always consult you before using non-branded components.

Frequently asked questions

We recommend changing the battery every 2 to 3 years. Do not leave a dead battery inside the watch, as Cartier movements are very susceptible to damage from leaking battery acid. If the watch stops, bring it to Prime Time immediately.

Yes. We are experts in polishing Cartier’s 18k gold and steel surfaces. We can remove scratches and scuffs, but we are careful not to over-polish, ensuring the sharp edges and screw motifs remain defined.

The blue stone (synthetic spinel or sapphire) is a key Cartier feature. If it breaks, we can remove the remaining fragments and set a new, genuine stone into the crown, or replace the crown entirely if the metal is damaged.

Modern Santos models are water-resistant, but square watches are harder to seal than round ones. We strongly recommend a pressure test every year if you plan to swim with it. Vintage Santos models should generally be kept dry.

We offer a 2-year warranty on all Cartier servicing. This covers all work carried out and parts replaced, ensuring your timepiece remains a reliable companion for years to come.
